Session Overview:

Well Plug & Abandonment (P&A) is the final operation in a well, this work required by local governments represents a huge liability for the oil & gas industry. The objective is to place permanent well barriers which shall extend across the full cross section of the well, including all annuli and seal both vertically and horizontally. This webinar will provide a high-level overview of how to perform a well abandonment. It will touch briefly on the regulations and guidelines and thereafter focus on annular isolation methodologies while highlighting some of the technical challenges. The key to success is doing it right the first time: safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective.

Speaker Biography:

Bart Joppe is the Well Abandonment Leader for Baker Hughes Company in Houston. He is responsible for technical, commercial and operational support for the company’s well abandonment services. In his 23 years with Baker Hughes Mr. Joppe has performed operational, technical sales and business development roles in Europe, the USA and the Middle East. His technical expertise includes well abandonment, fishing and milling services, through-tubing intervention and wellbore isolation. He has served as a project manager for new technology development and as an instructor for Baker Hughes and the Society of Petroleum Engineers well abandonment training programs.

Mr. Joppe graduated from the Institute for Petroleum and Gas Technology “Noorder Haaks” in Den Helder, The Netherlands and holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Drilling and Production Technology. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
