Session Title:

Common design characteristics of high- and low-temperature deep geothermal wells.

Abstract:

Join our guest speaker to find out how Geothermal (low Enthalpy vs. high Enthalpy) wells are different compared to conventional Oil and Gas Well when it comes to material selection, well design, completions, and what API/ISO/Thermal standards are applicable. The webinar will focus on the design criteria and implications of high temperatures and high flow rates for geothermal wells.

Speaker Profile:

Our guest speaker would be  Mr. Ozgur Balamir, Drilling Manager - GeothermEx,  Schlumberger.
Mr. Balamir designs, engineers, and manages the drilling and maintenance of geothermal wells. He formulates detailed drilling and workover plans, and he provides on-site supervision of domestic and international rotary drilling, core drilling, testing, and workover operations. He also develops and manages drillingservices contracts, equipment procurement, and inventory control for domestic and international drilling operations. His other experience includes casing design, cementing, and analysis of drilling data for establishing efficient drilling practices as well as expert witness and litigation support services. Mr. Balamir has applied these practices on projects throughout North and Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. He has had on-site experience as a drilling supervisor in North and South America, Turkey, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Prior to joining GeothermEx, Mr. Balamir worked for Geothermal Resource Group (a firm specializing in geothermal drilling consulting and supervision) and for a major energy development and exploration company as a drilling engineer and field supervisor developing the 80-MWe expansion with the Kızıldere II geothermal power plant and the exploration wells for the 45-MWe Alaşehir power plant (both located in Western Turkey). He has additional experience with conventional and unconventional (coal-bed methane) gas projects along the northwest coast of Turkey, and he has worked on an offshore oil and gas drilling rig in the western Black Sea. Mr. Balamir graduated from Istanbul Technical University with a B.S. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. He is fluent in English and Turkish and holds dual citizenship with the United States and the Republic of Turkey.
