Who are we?
The Northern Emirates Section covers Dubai and the Northern Emirates and we currently have around 617 members. The majority of our members are located in Dubai, with a significant number in Sharjah and a few in Fujeirah and Ras Al Khaimah. The section was established in 1985, and won the President’s Award for Section Excellence in 2006, when the Chairman was Razik Sheikh then of Dubai Petroleum Establishment.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange through a lively, regular program of technical and social events throughout the year. Our committee is actively seeking support to assist with organizing our growing meetings program.
Student Chapters
The Section has two affiliated Student Chapters: the American University of Sharjah and Heriot-Watt University in Dubai. The Student Chapters organize a number of activities themselves, but it is the Section’s responsibility to offer support and opportunity for student members to participate in Section meetings and to contribute to the overall exchange of knowledge that is SPE’s primary function.
Mohammed Awartani is our current Student Liaison. To set up a student chapter at your school, please email Mohammed.Awartani@bakerhughes.com.
Young Professionals
If you are 35 years of age or younger, you qualify for the title “Young Professional” (YP). With 30% of our current membership qualifying as YPs, we are eager to promote special YP activity within the Section. The YP Chair is Alexis Devis, and he has already started to gather a group and plan YP activities including an Ambassador Lecturer Program. For more information, please contact Alexis at Alexis.Devis@bakerhughes.com.
